About five years ago, Iris Kohlweiss made what curator Roman Grabner calls "a quantum leap" in her practice: she turned to drawing, and began a sustained engagement — both theoretical and artistic — with how space is perceived and felt. She treats space not as something to be mapped, but as a socio-cultural quantity, a field of possibility. Her *Realm Translations* build from countless, delicately layered planes of coloured pencil, arriving at forms that read as abstract and metaphorical at once. With her new series, *Excerpta*, she returns to painting.
